Dagan: Egypt, Syria have nuclear programs, as well as Iran
By Gideon Alon, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service
The head of the Mossad intelligence service, Meir Dagan, warned Monday that there are signs that several Middle East states other than Iran - including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Syria - are at varying stages of development of nuclear programs. Dagan, reviewing the security situation for the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, also warned that the atomic threat posed by Iran will soon reach the point of no return in a nuclear arms race.
The Mossad chief told committee members that Iran is attempting to lead the International Atomic Energy Agency astray.
According to Dagan, Russia is still helping Iran build its nuclear reactor in Bushehr.
In addition, Dagan said Iran is encouraging Hezbollah to carry out terror attacks in Israeli territory, and giving assistance to Palestinian terror organizations.
Peres: Iran is the central problem of the Mideast Vice Premier Shimon Peres, responding to reports that Tehran sought to foment terrorist attacks in order to foil a Israeli-Palestinian truce, said Monday that Iran constitutes the principal problem of the Middle East, and the center for terrorism in the region.
"Iran is the problem of the Middle East," Peres said.
"It is a group of people who have freed themselves from speaking the truth, who think that the means justify the ends, and who hide everything they do," he told Army Radio.
"It is the center of terrorism in the Middle East. It is trying to create a nuclear option with a religious coloration."
But Peres cautioned against Israel taking on the burden of confrontating Tehran.
"The Iran issue is a global one. Let the world conduct the war. How much do we need to take upon ourselves."
In any event, Peres continued, diplomatic solutions must be explored by Washington and others before any decision for military action should be taken.
Unless something is done, it's only a matter of time before Iran hands a nuke off to al-Qaeda.
He was also one of the most vociferous opponents-within Begin's cabinet-of the strike at the Osirak nuclear reactor.
Israel is going to have to make a drop dead decision sooner rather than later. I have a feeling what it's going to be. The gloves are coming off. The rest of the Arab world knows of Israel's doomsday policy should they all think they are ready for a more powerful conventional invasion this time.
They'll do it themselves. They're already advertising their intentions regarding Israel.
?What?
WHERE did they get them from?
/Saddam's 3 Mystery Ships?
Peres is a "third wayer".
I don't think that Egypt has the technological wherewithal to start a bicycle development program.
Ping!
As my Aunt Sophie says at the buffet...
"I don't where to start, it all looks so tempting..."
Methinks it's time for the Knesset to consider a vote of no confidence.
They are assembling Abrams tanks.
Alternate title: The Road to Armageddon
Iran is sitting on an estimated 94 billion barrels of oil, and some 24 Trillion cubic meters of natural gas. they don't need Nuclear power for electricity generation, so that kind of narrows things down a bit as to what they are really up to.
Now we have this report. Remember too, that we still don't know the extent of the A.Q. Kahn network, and what he sold to whom.
Folks, we are heading hell bent for an all out nuclear war in the Middle East. If you don't think that Iran wouldn't nuke the whole state of Israel if given the opportunity, I got news for you!
We're in Iraq, trying to clean that cesspool out, and we have the EU making deals with Iran to allow them to continue developing Nuclear Weapons.
If anyone thinks that the War on Terror is over when Iraq holds Elections, I have more news for you...
This is scary stuff.
I hope they do..enough of this nonsense and evil in the Middle East! USA will back Israel up no matter what as long as we have Pres Bush.
Analysis: U.S. losing ground in Iraq war ( Knight Ridder newspapers say...)
If so, don't let the UN stop you! It is time once and for all for Israel's enemies to get the message to stop the crap once and for all. Period. I just hope the USA will stop piddling around, stand up for Israel like the ally it is, and quit all the playing footsie with the UN and the Euroweenies. Try for genuine peace, but also tell real friends that we totally understand when they reach the point of having to look after their own interests.
I had read somewhere last year there was a Pakistani-Chinese connection to Saudi Arabian nuclear development.
