I hope the very fragile
Prof. Nancy Hopkins can somehow be protected from having to hear of this research.

Well, I don't have any trouble reading a map.

You are one of about 5% of women who can read one. Congrats. My wife still can't parallel park worth a darn, despite my very patient training.

with lesbian women having a greater difference in length between their ring finger and index finger than straight women do.
Could there be a cure? POLITICALLY INCORRECT thought!

Getting a man to read a map is the hard first step, almost as difficult as having him stop to ask for directions. ;)

I tried to teach my wife to drive a standard shift. After 30 minutes and about 30000 miles of wear on the clutch we gave up. She was not even able to start the truck moving.

The research looked at the spatial, numerical and verbal skills of 40 student volunteers. Someone actually got paid to do research with a statistical sample of 40 people in one location.
Criminy.

Me too! And can park and maneuver well.
Never dreamt it was only 5%. I think many women do not even try.
I used to read a map all the time even before I went into the Army. Once, I told my driver, there is a little road coming up after a culvert; I want you to make a right turn there." He was mystified til I explained a 1:50K In Germany, you almost can't get lost with a 1:50.
Women who can't read maps don't belong in the Army, for sure.

She is the only reason I gave up my stick shifts.

I can't find my way out of paper sack that is rip half way down the side. It is a good thing my wife is not as navagationaly challenged as I.
She on the other hand can't parallel park to save her life.
Perhaps I need to check out her fingers. hmmm

I also can read a map, parallel park, back into a space using mirrors, judge distances....etc. This study will be disproved as soon as another study is conducted. Whenever there is a "study" taken, the only variable that are put into the study are the ones that back up your point of view.
