AOL ultimately spun off the project and created the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation to develop Firefox and related software.

One of the only worthwhile things AOL has ever done.

And yet they use a version of MSIE for their own browser. Go figure.

Actually, since they bought Netscape, they adapted that for their AOL browser. The new version of Netscape is built on the Firefox 0.9.3 codebase.
