snip...Buddhism is as respectable as Christianity

Only if you can close your eyes and mind to some pretty horrendous issues, for instance, females being considered subhuman and the present-day practice of infanticide (Chinese, Thais, and other Budhists still 'throw away' unwanted babies & children) When I lived on Okinawa, I learned that infanticide was still being practiced on at least one of the outlying islands. After they killed the unwanted baby or child {via drowning, leaving as food for predators, etc}, they "honored" the murdered child by creating a representational 'doll'. Nice, huh?!? As respectable as Christianity? NOT!!!!!!!!

The official position of Buddhist teachings is that life begins at conception and that abortion and infanticide are therefore morally wrong.

Are there Buddhists who violate this rule? Of course. There are also many Christians who also engage in abortion.

As for women being considered sub-human, please point out where that is taught in Buddhism.

Is that Buddhism, or Buddhists? Many Christians and Jews engage in equally horrendous acts, but that doesn't mean that Christianity or Judaism promotes those acts.
