You're probably right that Gore would have won the election as an incumbent, and in restrospect it worked out. But nobody knew that then, they just knew that Clinton was successfully characterizing his criminal behavior as personal behavior.

They saw immediate political damage and tried to avoid it. It's hard for me to believe that nitwits like Arlen "scottish Law" Spector had long term motivation or foresight.

Personally, I am philosophically opposed to term limits to any elected office. They restrict MY right to vote for whomever I please!

Now, term limits for Supreme Court justices is a whole 'nuther topic...

As for getting rid of the "native born" restriction for President, no way Jose. Let Arnie run for Senate against Boxer!
