Gregoire: Bush Shortchanging the States
Yahoo News ^ | 1/22/2005 | DAVID AMMONS

OLYMPIA, Wash. - America's newest governor, Democrat Christine Gregoire of Washington, chided President Bush (news - web sites) on Saturday for shortchanging the states and urged the former Texas governor to remember their financial needs.

The Democratic Governors' Association picked Gregoire to respond to President Bush's weekly radio address to the nation. She took office on Jan. 12 after winning by just 129 votes out of 2.9 million cast. Her Republican rival wants the courts to overturn the election and order a revote.

Gregoire wished Bush well as he enters his second term, but then lit into him. Many of the states' gravest problems are a shared responsibility with Washington, D.C., but the federal government continues to let down the statehouses, she said.

"Too often, the states feel the federal partnership is more promise than reality," she said in the speech text.

Gregoire cited homeland security, transportation, health care and education as areas where federal mandates are heaped on the states without a corresponding flow of money and help.

In the war on terror, she said, "Candidly, there is too much talk and too little action coming out of Washington, D.C.

"The federal government is imposing new security requirements on our cities and counties, without providing the necessary financial assistance to local law enforcement — cops and firefighters whose resources are already stretched too thin."

She complained that Congress has been unable to pass a highway appropriations bill at a time when the states are desperate for jobs and for better roads.

Health care costs are strangling states like Washington, she said, adding: "This is not the time for the administration to abandon its responsibility to address the health care crisis facing our nation. We must forge a renewed partnership to address this issue."

On schools, Gregoire said Bush's No Child Left Behind program has laudable goals, but has never been adequately funded. "We must do better for our children," she said.

"The states are on the front lines" and need federal reinforcements, Gregoire said.

"I urge President Bush to use his new term to open the doors to the states and form lasting partnerships which will help us make our people safer, bolster our economy and improve the future for all our children," she added.

How the h#ll is this woman still in the Governor's Mansion?

Isn't this election still be sorted out by virtue of the massive provable fraud?

Where to begin???

Let's start with healthcare - Gregoire was single handedly responsible for destroying the states low insurance rates with over regulation that she recommended.

Gregoire was heavily involved in the tobacco suit and won a lot of money for the state that was supposed to help with healtcare costs, but we have yet to see results.

As far as homeland security is concerned, there was a lot of money allocated for port security on the western Wa coast, but Seattle was hogging most of it and the funding was cancelled for redistribution.

You know, before all this started, I didn't hate Christine Gregoire. I didn't vote for her and I campaigned for her opponent, but I didn't have an especially negative opinion of her, because I had a friend in law enforcement who thought highly of her.

Now I can't stand the sight of her.

And now I find she's making it worse.

Health care costs are strangling states like Washington, she said, adding: "This is not the time for the administration to abandon its responsibility to address the health care crisis facing our nation.

WASHINGTON IS A SOCIALIST STATE, WE CAN'T EVEN PURCHASE HEALTHCARE THROUGH THE OPEN MARKET....WE ARE REQUIRED TO GO THROUGH WA STATE AND SHOW ALL OUR OF INCOME AND ASSETS. THEY THEN DETERMINE WHAT ARE RATE SHOULD BE PAYING. WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COMPARISION SHOW....."FREE" HEALTHCARE FOR THE TEEN MOTHERS AND OTHERS THAT HAVE NEVER PAID ONE RED CENT IN TAXES TO THIS STATE IS THE REASON WE ARE BEING STRANGLED!

OK, it is a "goal". I thought you worded it like it was already decided.

If this woman retains her position as governor, she should take a lesson from the great former governor of Georgia, Zell Miller. He was able to bring a lot of money into his state by attracting overseas businesses (no high B&O taxes like Washington State). He saved Georgia's public education system by slashing 1500 state government positions, no doubt redundant and unnecessary ones. I could go on and on, as Zell would say. Suffice it to say that this Dem governor will do nothing to save our state from going bust except to raise taxes. She will continue to blame the president for our woes, however, rather than years of democratic governors and their tax and spend mentality.

Stoat, bring some of us up-to-date. Is the revote a possibility? What are the chances of it taking place? Best wishes to all of you making the effort out there.

The ReVote is definitely a possibility, and we are moving forward with it.  It's in the courts now and of course the Dems are doing their usual delaying tactics because they know that we have a very strong and solid case.

I don't know how much detail you want, as there's quite a bit in this mess we have here.  If you're looking for lots of specifics, probably the best places to check would be among these sites:

I'm now seeing that once again our friend Backhoe has been keeping on top of this issue in fine fashion, and has kindly provided us with  a one-stop information site here at FR:

Rossi v. Gregoire How Elections Are Stolen

I hope that these links will be of some help in answering your questions.  Please let me know if you need more clarity on a specific item and I will do my best to help, although I confess that there are other Washington Freepers who are much more up to speed on this than myself......I'm mainly a passionate cheerleader (the male kind)   :-)

Thank you for your kind words, and I am confident that we will prevail.

Perhaps you can explain to myself and others what your long, boring diatribe about the contributions of the Hollywood community to tsunami victims has to do within a discussion about shortchanging the states. Your unimpressive long read really, at least to me, is not on topic and frankly is defunct of any meaningful message.

Next time, and I hope there is not one, just start your own thread. This way I can skip it entirely.

Thank you.

Why would anyone listen to what Gov. Daley has to say?

Given the way she shortchanged vote integrity and the GOP voters in WASH,

it's understandable that she considers herself an expert on short-changing people.

Watch your pocketbooks and pubescent teens, Washington. There's probably little safe from such liberal idiots.
