I think I saw that movie 10 times....
Many of the incidents in Animal House HAVE a real life counterpart. There were even more stories that we not adapted.
Some of them ran in National Lampoon magazine and other publications.
Old School jumped the shark when James Carville came onscreen as himself as an "expert".
The end of Old School has more in common with the exam that Rodney Dangerfield faces in Back to School.
The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests; we did. But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg! Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you bad-mouth the United States of America! Gentlemen!
IIRC, Animal house was set in the early 60's, before Viet Nam.
If they are going to be doing interviews then they NEED a grounding in popular culture AND American history to get cultural references.
Instead "pop has eaten itself" and people are more likely to know James Brown's sound from the countless hip hop songs that steal his horn section blasts.
Dennis Miller would be an example of a guy who's references are often too obscure for a general audience. If your students did not know the Beatles or the Stones, they would quickly tune out on Dennis Miller.
Thank you god!
I don't recall that part, give me a hint of some of the dialogue.
Anchorman is a film that had a premise but a lousy script. The evidence of this is that they shot enough alternate subplots that they were able to include a "whole" other Anchorman movie on the second DVD.
The plot line they went with for the theatrical release was better than their SLA-type terrorist radicals but it still was a disappointment.
Will Farrell was good at times in the movie. Elf was a better film.
"Don't stop him, he's on a roll"
Geez, the Old School fans have come up with... what? 1 or 2 quotes, as opposed to numerous gems that we aficionados of the true classics cherish? :)
Can't decide what my fav Belushi scene is in AH, but the peeing on Pinto & Flounder's shoes, as well as the guitar-smashing scene on the stairs, have to be close to the top!
Have you ever read The Night of the Seven Fires? It's a short story that appeared in National Lampoon magazine (in '74, I believe) that is a "prequel" to the movie. Hilarious and repulsive, all rolled up together.
or taking a peek at the sorority house...
LOL!!!! Yup, that one too, as well as sneaking across the front of the Admin building steps.
Animal House is classic. Older that I am(born in 79), but still a big favorite among most people my age.
Animal House hands down. The king of campus comedies. Old School is funny but it isn't even close.PCU was better than "Old School", though not quite Animal House.
