an old 486 laptop that has Windoze 95 on it. Hmm. I believe that there are a few distros that are optimized for the older architectures.
Go here and look around for some.

Good website. Lots of knowledge to search. I've been using UNIX for a while, but no admin stuff. Sort of like riding motorcycles without knowing how they work.
