"What if this cosmos, our current home, is the one and only cosmos that has ever been or will ever be?" Asking of 'ever been or will ever be is the wrong question. Future time is merely one variable expression of dimension Time, as are present and past, much the way linear, planar, and volumetric (for want of better terms) are variable expressions of dimension Space.

The expansion quotient is directly proportional to the energy condensed into matter, kind of like latent heat of eveporation.
