GOOD!
I agree.
Maybe now they can find someone who will actually do their job instead of being afraid of the mass media corporations and advertisers.
Might be interesting to see in what direction "W" goes with this...

Honestly the FCC has no effect on my life what so ever so I say "EH" to this news.
Yea.
...or infuriating, disappointing etc ad infinitum.
That's nice to hear, but it would be better if the whole damn thing went away.
In the meantime though I'll take it.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I am glad to see him go. It took a public outcry for him to start doing his job. Hopefully we can get someone who will protect morality on the airwaves, without being subjected to the anger of the masses.
How about replacing him with Bernard Goldberg?
Then again, "W" might ask himself, "Now just what is it you people are here for?" What're the odds???
Yeah, yeah ;^)

Is this more fall out from the, er, fall out? What a way to lose your job . . . |
Kevin Martin would be the best choice to replace Powell.
Even to a casual observer of the Commission, it certainly appears that Powell was asked to step down by the White House. He didn't jump, he was pushed.
Powell was originally appointed to the FCC by Clinton.

I'd prefer they stuck to frequency allocation and let market forces shape content decisions.
The FCC didn't make the biggest impact about Janet Jacksons wardrobe malfunction for example - viewers did.
Subjects of which would ultimately end up at SCOTUS where precedent would be a prickly problem. No two violations are exactly the same???
IMO, there's a larger question, that is, do we as a society/culture have the right to condemn and restrict certain behaviors?

He gets my vote.
The larger problem is the BLOATED bureaucracy generally; overstepping, overreaching and increasing encroachment into our daily lives. What SHOULD their charter and/or mission statement be? Where should "WE the People" engage this problem?

I expect you're right about this.

Sounds like it makes sense,
but if you think about it,
I'm not sure it does.
There have been always
viewers who complain. For some
internal reason,
big name media
have been giving complainers
air time recently.
I do not believe
these are real "market forces"
at work here because
media people
will tell you offended folks
are always present . . .
I was getting ahead of myself. The problem I refer to is "smut" on the streets, on the air, and in your face.
