I would have preferred AMERICAN anthems or hymns; not songs written by political hacks.

How about "This Land Is Your Land", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", "Yankee Doodle Dandy", and "God Bless America".

One wonders if they shouldn't ease up, calm down, breathe deep, get more securely grounded. The most moving speeches summon us to the cause of what is actually possible. Perfection in the life of man on earth is not.

Right on. The songs were awful. I would have prefered more traditional stuff--an inauguration is one of the few occassions when we get to hear them. As a songwriter Orin Hatch makes a great wimpy committee chair.

ditto, that "Let the Eagle Soar" was pretty lame. I was disappointed in the musical selections myself.
