Before I give you my answer, allow me to tell you what I was doing when I received your message. I was preparing a short pulpit speech I will give this Sunday inviting the men of our parish to attend an ACTS Retreat. My definition of the retreat is "it is an opportunity for members of our parish and nearby churches, through reflections on God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to grow in their love for God, and, following the example set by Jesus in the washing of the feet, respond to God’s call to love and serve one another."

So, my goodness, yes, I would much rather have my issues settled by an American court influenced by Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

But that is not the issue here. Did you read the James Woolsey speech for which I included a link in post 309? As he says, there are horrible groups in the Mid-East that are our sworn enemies: Middle East Fascists and Islamist totalitarians that are beyond redemption and with whom we will never be able to co-exist. But there are also hundreds of millions of good and decent Muslems who believe in the separation of Mosque and State and with whom we can make common cause. There are many examples throughout history of Muslem ruled countrys where freedom of religion was allowed. Not that I would ever want to live in such a country.

I have enough confidence in President Bush to believe that he would be able to distinguish between these different groups. I think he included a reference to the Koran in his speech to let good and decent Moslems know we are willing to work with them to bring about free countrys in the Middle East.

We cannot be at war with all Moslems. It didn't work during the Crusades and it won't work now.

Darn, I got on this thread late.

Yours is a good question, especially for committed Christians.

Maybe Billy Graham could sit down with the Prez sometime...

America is a Christian Nation in the sense that it was founded by Christians who did not want a Government-mandated religion. Did you get your History Lessons out of a Captain Crunch Cereal box?

Some people would rather nourish their irrational bigotry rather than follow the lead of President Bush in this time of war. In that regard they are no better than the Stalinists of A.N.S.W.E.R.

lol.. you ASSUME I am a christian. I may be, or I may not, but I have never actually stated a religious preference. My views are mostly Christian I guess, but probably not in line with some of the more pinheaded literalists. However, just to demonstrate how even reading such as that can improve your understanding... it was thru reading that, and the Bible, and others, and seeing the contrasts, which formed my beliefs that all religions are seperated into two basic camps... those based in self-sacrifice (selflessness) vs those based in self-interest (selfishness). Further, say one is doing a battle of philosophies with one who is, for instance, a satanist... how many Christians know the first thing about what they really believe? Not many. As such, the satanists can undermine you because they DO know what your philosophies are.. yet you have hamstrung yourself and entered battle unprepared because you cannot undermine, and point out inconsistencies in THEIR writings. I have made numerous satanists (or wiccans who claim to be different) reconsider their positions not because of anything the bible said, but by pointing out flaws and inconsistencies in THEIR "scriptures". This is not possible when one knows nothing of their ideas. You can armor yourself in the Bible, and surround yourself only with like thinking people.. and whose mind are you going to change? Not ONE. How many souls will be saved when you surround yourself with only the pious? None.. not even your own possibly since if you had MUCH strength of faith, you would not fear being surrounded by those whose thoughts are different from your own. And you certainly would not try to denigrate those whose opinions are different from your own, which is both UN-christian, and counterproductive. By understanding THEIR "scriptural" work, you take the fight from being merely defensive, in which they are attacking your scriptures and you are defending them... to the offensive, making them defend THEIR philosophies, fighting them on THEIR turf. And when one beats an opponent on HIS turf... it is much more convincing.
