He is the President of all of us. We have many Americans who are Muslim. He mentioned the Bible, The Torah and the Koran. What is the issue here? We have many Americans who are Hindu and Buddhist. Did he therefore also mention the Baghadvita and the Tipitaka.

In America's ideal of freedom, the public interest depends on private character - on integrity, and tolerance toward others, and the rule of conscience in our own lives. Self-government relies, in the end, on the governing of the self. That edifice of character is built in families, supported by communities with standards, and sustained in our national life by the truths of Sinai, the Sermon on the Mount, the words of the Koran, and the varied faiths of our people. Americans move forward in every generation by reaffirming all that is good and true that came before - ideals of justice and conduct that are the same yesterday, today, and forever.

I haven't yet had the chance to listen to the entire speech or read the text, so I was wondering what the President said during his speech to ignite such anger among some FReepers. And this is it? I can't believe some folks are getting so bent out of shape over this.

Have you met him? A friend of mine owns a restaurant/bar in North Beach. Savage use to go there three to four nights a week, after his show was over. He drove customers away with his boorish behavior, so much so that my friend was contemplating 86'ing him for good. That was what he was discussing with me, asking me for my advice on how or if he should to do that.
A week later he said Savage had not been back since he and I spoke. Apparently he found another watering hole. This was about two years ago.

Have you ever heard of the Iraqi and Afghan people that we want to participate in a friendly, republican democracy?

I second that emotion don-o! On my way home every night Ive got Hugh Hewitt until about the halfway mark then its either music or Nut Bar Savage....for a dose of the ridiculous, sometimes I listen. He went over the cliff along time ago. I thought clintoon was the most self centered, narcissistic, ego maniac in the country...but sadly I think mr. nutbar has him beat!

I imagine there are Muslims who claim that Osama is not a true Muslim as well. Haven't seen that as of yet ...
To: Paloma_55
He can embrace those who claim (and ACT) to be peaceful muslims, or he can line them all up and shoot them dead. Why must all threads discussing muslims be reduced to this absurd pair of options?
There is at least one alternative: criticize them, explain why they are being criticized; suggest they deal with the real problems that the current practice of the religion worldwide creates, and then wait to see what happens.
Suggesting that islam today is the equivalent of Judaism and Christianity is a gross abuse of the notion of tolerance, even for the most terminally "politically correct".

So? We are at war with a Muslim country, not Hindu or Buddihist. I believe it was right of him to address the Muslim Americans. And it was an in your eye to the jihadists.

McVeigh WAS NOT A CHRISTIAN!!!
Did he think he was a Christian? Did he profess to be a Christian? I'm just wondering if he really wasn't a Christian, or if this is a variation of the "No true Scotsman would..." argument.
To: AQGeiger
I can't believe some folks are getting so bent out of shape over this.Me neither, but there are some FReepers who believe that if one wears a towel on their head and works at 7-11, they're a terrorist.
