House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi found herself on the defensive Thursday morning over the decision by Senate Democrats to put former Ku Klux Klansman, Sen. Robert Byrd, in charge of efforts to derail the confirmation of Secretary of State-nominee Condoleezza Rice.
"I don't think that whatever Sen. Byrd is doing has anything to do with his sad past," Pelosi told WWRL radio hosts Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter. Instead, said the San Francisco Democrat, the one-time Grand Kleagel was acting out of concern that the advise and consent role of the Senate in presidential appointments was being overlooked.
In a move that was seen by many as an insult to the first black woman ever appointed Secretary of State, Sen. Byrd announced his decision to hold up her confirmation late Wednesday, saying it needed more debate before the full Senate.
Rep. Pelosi insisted that Byrd's extraordinary move had nothing to do with his long history of public racism, but was instead a reflection of his opposition to the Iraq war.
"They're confirming a Secretary of State in a time of war. [Byrd's] views on the war and his opposition to it are well known," she said.
Still, Byrd's "sad history," as Pelosi described it, makes him a particularly bad choice to lead the assault on Rice.
As recently as 2001, the West Virginia Democrat was forced to apologize after blurting out during a nationally televised interview, "There are white n****rs, I've seen a lot of white n****rs in my time. I'm going to use that word."
In 1972, Byrd pushed to have the Senate's main office building named after Dixiecrat Sen. Richard Russell - a leading opponent of anti-lynching legislation who Byrd called "my mentor."
Byrd filibustered the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act for 14 straight hours.
Three years after he said he'd left his white-sheeted brethren behind, he wrote to Georgia's Grand Imperial Wizard urging: "The Klan is needed today as never before."
Sen. Byrd was also a fierce opponent of desegregating the military, complaining in one letter ."I should rather die a thousand times and see old glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen of the wilds."
Orwell must be smiling indeed!
We are talking about the dumbocrats here, the party that spawned bubba, the Pervaricator in Chief.
1 'Job requirements' for Ku Klux Klan membership
2 Legality of actions required to. become KKKMember
3 Additional requirements and legality of same for fulfilling KKK leadership role
4 Statutes of limitations expiration for 2 and 3 above
5 How Robert Byrd met the above requirements
6 Should Byrd pay reparations to families of his "alleged" victims, if any?
7 The interest in all the above expressed by the NAACP
Despicable democrat rat racsist bigots. The democrat party fears powerful African America, Hispanic and Asian conservatives. They fear that their taken for granted African American constituency may get ideas and run from the democrat plantation because they don't want to be held down any longer.
Ann Was right the Liberal's are Racist. The only 2 cabinet members not voted on yet are minorities.
After THIS, if the Democrat voters STILL don't get it, I think maybe there is no hope. What was IN that koolaid, anyway?
Bump.
Where are the Republicans?
This stinks so bad, but I'm wondering where the NAACP is on this.

Nothing.
It is a democrat doing it.
"Makes you wonder why the majority of blacks keep voting for the dems."
The dirty little (not so) secret is that the whole de-emphasis on REAL education in the public school systems of America was designed by the Dewey's of the world in the early part of the last century specifically to render the electorate docile and malleable to the will of a power elite.
This extends to include the 'Rats who make their fortunes in the public sector by keeping Blacks and other perceived minorities "on the plantation". They are willingly abbetted in this effort by those such as Jesse (Reverend of WHAT?) Jackson, Al (Bling-Bling) Sharpton, Maxine Waters and the like, who purposefully and willingly sell their their brothers into political and economic slavery in return for tax-free status, expense accounts, public funding, oh, yes, and a Toyota dealership or two.
As long as they keep this base rapping, playing midnight basketball and spending their entire disposable income on shoes and warm-ups, they can be assured that minorities will never so much as read one of the founding documents of this country, and will thus be ever dependent on their masters to tell them what rights the state in it's beneficence has decided to grant them today.
The vision of a self-actualized Black Woman ascending to the right hand of power in this country is anathema.
And she speaks understandable English, too. (Something Teddy the Swimmer hasn't yet mastered.)
That's awesome. Saved.
I live in WA state and we have Patty Osama Mama Murray, and I wonder how she gets elected as well. Recently I discussed it with a couple of dim coworkers and I learned the reason.
When I cited her pro-Osama speech I was told by each of them that it was taken out of context...as if there was a context that would possibly make sense. So, the answer is, they discount anything racist, ignorant or outright stupid that their dim leaders say or do.
Pelosi is the poster it of racist elite limo liberals.
He was of course making reference to an offensive and racist political cartoon which had circulated several months earlier and that portrayed Dr. Rice as just that -- a schreechintg black parrot.
The History Channel's series on the presidents had one historian define the Ku Klux Klan as "the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party." I love that definition.
Upcoming 60 Minutes expose to investigate:
1 'Job requirements' for Ku Klux Klan membership
2 Legality of actions required to. become KKKMember
3 Additional requirements and legality of same for fulfilling KKK leadership role
4 Statutes of limitations expiration for 2 and 3 above
5 How Robert Byrd met the above requirements
6 Should Byrd pay reparations to families of his "alleged" victims, if any?

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO. Excellent! And unfortunately not all that off the truth.
