On one hand, I agree that schools have no legal authority to tell kids what to do over the summer. On the other hand, the parents should be making them do math during the summer :-). On the other, other hand, people who file lawsuits like this are noodles.
That's three hands, but I still agree with your points.
Boy, I'm kind of flubbered:). I don't give any students homework over breaks (and not during the summer). I don't know hardly any teacher who does. However, we do expect that the kids and parents will at least read and practice arithmetic. There are all sorts of comments here that I agree with.

That's true, but they can give all of the homework they like. Just like the regular school year.
