My only complaint is that he should have said "the Holy Koran", then the pandering would have been complete ... Otherwise this is just insulting both to the infidels and true believers

I thought it was a wonderful speech. The analogy of fire, as in "the Fire of Freedom", was used to great effect throughout.

I also appreciated these lines:

"Across the generations we have proclaimed the imperative of self-government, because no one is fit to be a master, and no one deserves to be a slave. Advancing these ideals is the mission that created our Nation. It is the honorable achievement of our fathers. Now it is the urgent requirement of our nation's security, and the calling of our time."

Echoing one of his earlier speeches in which he said, "The commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time."

I was trying to remember, and I know you will, was that from his first inauguaral address, or was it from a speech after 9/11?

I think it was the fact that I was listening to the incessent chanting and race-baiting on CSPAN2 whilst following this thread. I know there are a few here who don't like all aspects of Bush's agenda. But, for goodness sakes, don't make it any bigger than it is. After a few dissenting posts (dissenting is maybe even too strong ... they didn't like the gratuitous mention of the Koran, thats all) you became fixated on that. That caught my eye.

The wackjobs are out in plain view, and they are not Joe or a few others (myself included) who occasionally find something to criticise about W.

When asked how the dems will view the speech, Peggy said they may comment on the lack of modesty. Kristol said it may seem grandiose in scope and Fred found nothing negative in it. Peggy said it shows a President on a mission.

BTW it was announced that Carl Cameron has been promoted to exclusively cover the WH (don't recall his new title). Any clue who he may have replaced?
