WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities have arrested four people accused of having ties to suspected terrorists and blocked 12 more from entering the United States in the first two weeks of this year, according to government documents.

Daily reports from the Homeland Security Operations Center do not contain classified information. But they are not distributed publicly and generally intended to remain secret.

Four arrested for suspected terror ties

And in the news that isn't reported another 6000 illegal Mexicans crossed the border today to come to the USA to collect the welfare that Americans aren't willling to collect, commit the crimes Americans aren't willing to commit, not pay the taxes Americans who are part of the system are forced to pay, and prepare for the Bush amnesty that will suddely make their illegal status legal.

I's so reassured by the fact that the law enforcement community is looking up my @$$ every time I fly, going over my financial affairs like it was any of their business and now arrests 4 people!

Maybe it's your dynamic personality and outward appearance which draws attention to your rear?

So what? How many thousand crossed the border that they didn't catch, or perhaps caught and released?

Yesterday, I wasn't allowed to teach six Spec Ed students to ride the Frost Bank (boo hiss, never giving them my money) elevator because of "security reasons". They can barely write their names, but oooooh, what if they were terrorists!!!

Maybe you're not really a total jerkoff, but when you post comments like this to someone whom you don't know I can only conclude that you have the brain and personality of a complete turd

Well, my friend, I didn't start it, but I'm unwilling to let a completely gratuitous ad hominem attack go unanswered although I suppose I should

My point exactly. Lots of posturing, strutting, arbitrary restrictions, and pushing people around, but not much real progress against real terrorists. Like the war on poverty and the war on drugs, the "war on terror" provides a convenient excuse for government to take away freedom and give nothing of substance in return

Hi All-

"...Lots of posturing, strutting, arbitrary restrictions, and pushing people around, but not much real progress against real terrorists..."

I'm surprised the If-you-have-nothing-to-hide-you-have-nothing-to-fear Crew hasn't added their two cents yet. That's just it, the situation "ain't so bad" right now, but that slope can get mighty slippery.

As a comical aside on terrorism, the theaters in my area have the 16-year-old ushers requesting to peer in customer bags for "security" purposes as they enter the movie. I simply say, "No thank you!" and brush past the beanpoles. It's a silly plan that is not based on law and I simply won't comply. Like you said, it's yet another outrageous rule designed to help people "feel" safer when no additional safety exists. My guess is that they are using terrorism as a disguise to search for smuggled candy and sodas...not to increase security.

The real challenge is when legislation is lofted to make these kind of inspections legal in our great country.

Yeah, the arrest of these four people is really doing the trick to radically improve the safety and security of our citizens...we don't need more of the same at this point.

They probably haven't seen it yet, and I've never found their comments to be worth as much as two farthings let alone two cents.

Very likely, of course your $.69 box of junior mints (other than being twice the size) is nowhere near as good as their $4.99 box of junior mints.

Where were they from, and how did they enter the country?

(I don't want to register with NJ newspaper to read article)

I didn't realize you had to register. Here's some info:

Three arrests came last week in Michigan, New York and Louisiana, and suspects were either held in connection with terrorism investigations or placed in deportation proceedings, according to the documents. The fourth came Jan. 6 at Los Angeles International Airport. The documents named those charged as:

•Fadi Hussein Nasser, a Lebanese national, who carried a driver's license bearing an address that authorities said was possibly linked to Hezbollah and "another subject with possible terrorist ties, as well as narcotics smuggling." He was arrested Jan. 12 during a traffic stop near Marysville, Mich., and put in removal proceedings.

•Murtada Ali Barakat, who is being held without bail in New York in connection with an investigation conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Joint Terrorism Task Force and the New York City Police Department. Barakat was charged Jan. 12 with marriage fraud and false statements. His arrest was part of an investigation into "Moslem Baidoun," who was named in a 20-count indictment issued Dec. 13 with 13 other suspects.

•Pakistani national Fazal U. Khan, described as the subject of a "national security investigation," who was arrested Jan. 13 in Lake Charles, La. In October, Khan was arrested by the FBI as the result of a Joint Terrorism task Force "national security investigation," and pleaded guilty on Jan. 6 of making false statements. He was placed in removal proceedings.

•Hussam Ahmad Khalil, a Jordan national, arrested Jan. 6 at the Los Angeles airport for allegedly violating state trademark regulations regarding impure oil. Authorities suspect he sends up to $40,000 to the Middle East each month and believe he is a member of Hamas. He is also suspected of wire fraud, trademark violations, harboring illegal aliens, narcotic smuggling and visa fraud.

Have you been over seas lately? I was in Manila recently. They were vastly more intense in their searching than SFO ever dreamed of being. Traveling over here is easy compared to that.

Knowing that other places are worse is not all that reassuring considering that's the direction we're headed.

I concur totally, even with the sarcasm!
