DOUGLAS - Agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol's Douglas station arrested an illegal immigrant wanted on child sex changes in Colorado.
The arrest happened Sunday when agents stopped a vehicle holding 13 illegal immigrants, said Andrea Zortman, a spokeswoman for the agency's Tucson Sector. The vehicle was seized.
As the 13 illegal immigrants were being processed, fingerprint information on Concepcion Mendoza-Pedroza, 28, came back that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by Arapaho County in Colorado, Zortman said. The warrant was for contempt of court for failing to report on a sexual assault of a child charge.
Mendoza is being held at the Cochise County Jail, pending extradition to Colorado. After authorities in Colorado are done with his case, he will be turned over to federal authorities for removal from the United States.
Background information on the man also showed he was deported in 2002 as an aggravated felon, Zortman said.
"They (illegal immigrants with criminal history) think they can come back, but they are finding out it's not easy," she said.
From Oct. 1 through Monday, 8,221 illegal immigrants with felonies have been apprehended in the sector, Zortman said. Of that number, 96 were sexual predators and 380 others had outstanding warrants against them.
