The UN's disaster chief has outlined a 10-year plan of investment to avert a natural disaster that could be 100 times worse than the Asian tsunami.

It walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. Methinks it is a clever runaround the word tax.
You all game to trust the UN to put this money in a "lockbox" and use the fund wisely?

Would someone please inform Mr. Egeland that his 15 minutes of fame are up. He is becoming very tedious.

I have yet to figure out how money could divert a natural disaster. Stuff sandbags with it, maybe? It always seems that the plan is simply to "get more money". Same goes with schools. "More money" will instantly solve all of the woes...

Not me. Besides, I think it's a ridiculous thing to do. I prefer the "pay as you go" plan. I do not want any of my money going anywhere "the world" has a chance of getting it.

I'd sure contribute to a fund to prevent another Jan Egelund appearance from happening again.

Naw. France. They dont have as many old people to support as they used to. That extra money can fund the next Euro disaster.

Yeah, right. This is just like any state or local or school district "rainy day" fund. It always sounds good at first, but the next administration always ends up plundering it while the public's not looking. Problem is, this rainy day fund would be plundered by the current UN administration.

Sounds more like he wants to pull a "Red Cross" and keep some of the tsunami funds for some future futile attempt in STOPPING disasters. How do you stop tsunamis?

My bet is that the UN disaster chief has himself a new New York City mistress and she wants a brownstone in the East 60s. The disaster chief needs to be able to skim some BIG bucks! These guys are all crooks!

Great idea. Who knows? Someday the world might have an oil crisis. Or a food crisis.

Let's start funding a UN Oil & Food program right away!

He said there needed to be better city planning, more development and investment in poorer areas.

This is not disaster warning related, it is simply another method of transferring money to civic development in third-world countries. There are already mechanisms for this.
