I heard on KPNW Senator Biden was quoted as saying in the Rice Hearing that there were only 4,000 trained Iraqi security forces in the country, when disputing an administration claim that the figure was 125,000. The figure of 4,000 was published in Cenral Command news release 05-01-72, which gave the figure for those assigned to Mosul. This sounds like another "Ratherism" to me, if I am hearing correctly.
Wouldn't be the first time he's spewed a filthy lie.
Probably means 2005 January 72nd release or something along those lines. The military is kind of strange on dates speaking from previous experience. Just a SWAG tho (scientific wild a%% guess)
Seventy-twooth news release of January 2005.
You're probably correc.....I wasn't thinking military dating/numbering.
But it sure would be nice if the poster came back and answered questions that have been raised.
Thanks

Release Number: 05-01-72
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IRAQ: IRAQI SECURITY FORCE TROOPS GROW TO NEARLY 4,000
MOSUL, Iraq -- In an effort to provide enhanced security and stability for the Jan. 30 elections, Iraqi Security Forces have increased the number of troops in northern Iraq.
Currently there are nearly 4,000 Iraqi Security Forces in the Mosul area. Their forces include members of the Iraqi National Guard and Iraqi Regular Army. Troops will continue to move into the area as the elections draw closer.
The increase in Iraqi Security Forces will provide additional security to allow the citizens of Iraq to vote.
Yup. Seems to me that we have more and more hit and runs lately - have you noticed?
Yes, I have noticed, that's why I made the comment.
he asked her how many trained iraqis Allawi could count on to stand and fight, and die, who Marines trusted to stand with them, etc...he said 4,000...which were trained as special forces troops. He was denigrating the Iraqi Forces, in a bid to discredit her.
Go to the Central Command website and hit news releases. Then you will see all of them released in the recent past.
Go to the Central Command website and click on news releases. Everything from the recent past is listed. From the titles you see you won't really need the number.
I already corrected myself.........get over it. Your initial post was extremely poorly written.
No one could possibly despise Joe Biden as much as I do, and I know the man personally and have for more years than I care to remember. But even with my own personal bias, you handled your initial post rather poorly.
Thanks for the explanation. It seems not only was Biden's comment off the mark, but then the radio spun out the myth that the comparison was betweem 4,000 and 125,000.
Thanks for posting the release.
Interesting.
hopefully this will get out to the blogosphere and Drudge.
