Theft appeared to be at least part of the motive: investigators said that only a penny remained in the house after the slayings and that Mr. Armanious's pockets and wallet had been emptied.

A penny? A PENNY?

That's the kind of detail that reeks of fiction, not fact.

The police would not confirm reports by Coptic Christians that Mr. Armanious had engaged in fiery debates about Christianity and Islam in an Internet chat room, which fueled rumors that the murders were a hate crime.

And then the NY Times frames the key issue in the most bland language possible.

This should have been AT LEAST as big as the Matthew Shepherd or James Byrd murders were.

...with some mourners jumping on top of cars, shoving each other and threatening to beat a Muslim cleric who was escorted to safety by the police...

And there in a nutshell is the difference between the Christians and the Muslims. They threatened... the Muslims just do it.

And, I'm not even addressing the issue of whether the cleric was there, innocently, to calm tensions or, on the contrary, to gloat--I haven't a clue either way.

The Manson "family" wanted their murders to resemble a "robbery" as well. They wanted to start a race war (and I believe that they plotted to or did discard a stolen wallet in a black neighborhood)

I dont think we know the whole story here, but why in the world should any Christian suffer the presence of muslims at a Christian Funeral? The muslim was NOT INVITED he "Crashed" a funeral!

It was in Incredibly Bad Taste for a muslim to show his false-God worshipping head at the funeral of a murdered Christian!

Seems like if someone was interested in robbery, they'd rob someone with money, and chose a house where they did not have to slit 4 throats to get it. The fact that they were bound makes it sound like more than one killer.

The NYT, of course, can't believe that anyone would commit a hate crime against Christians. That certainly wasn't what they had in mind when they urged passage of the hate crime law.

If he REALLY wanted to show respect, he would be on TV and in every public place he can be preaching how these acts of terrorism against Christians was absolutely WRONG and that anyone committing such violence would go straight to the Muslim equivalent of Hell.

But you notice that he didn't disavow the acts at all....
