To cut to the chase---What should be done, is for teachers from the lowest levels of school all the way to the collegiate level to be required to state before discussing evolutionary THEORY that it is an unproven theory and be required by law to give statements from scientists that are counter to the theory of evolution...give both sides, and let the students decide for themselves.
This would be the best and proper route to take in America.
Fine, but I demand equal time for flat-earthers in Geography class.
> give both sides
Both sides? Woudl they be THESE two sides?
1) Evolutionists
2) Raelians
Or maybe these two:
1) Evolutionists
2) Muslim Creationists
Or maybe ...
3) Hindu Creationists
4) Norse Creationists
5) Sumerian Creationists
6) Lamarkians
7) Theosophists
8) Scientologists
9) Urantians
10)...
So, which two sides?
Just curious. What are the data you use to support creationism?
Should the same be done for creationism? Remind the students that this is religious belief, not based in science?
What "both sides" are you talking about? The case for and against evolution on the basis of what's missing from the scientific record? Or does "both sides" mean evolution and creationism?
And perhaps it would be best if we simply taught the students the meaning of the word "theory", which would probably help you out as well, given that your grasp of the definition of the term seems a bit shaky.
By definition, a theory is "unproven", it is "a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain natural phenomena <a theory of organic evolution." Note that the definition of the word theory nowhere contains the word "fact".
With that information in hand, our students would be even better prepared to deal with the information.
If people value their childrens faith, then that's the stupidest idea I've ever heard.
The very instant the subject of evolution vs Genesis comes up the question will become "is there proof of God". This will happen in a government run school away from parents and church leaders. Its guaranteed that some, perhaps many, young skulls full of mush will decide at a teachers direction that God doesn't exist.
Like trying to convince a child that has figured out Santa Claus that he really does live at the North Pole. Trying to restore the faith of a child after they "get it" will never happen.
Leave science to scientists. Leave discussions on the meaning of Genesis in church.
I don't know when and where you went to school, but in SCIENCE class, I was taught the THEORY of evolution as such.
Biblical creationism stayed in Sunday school, religious studies, the home; that is to say, outside of science class.
Perhaps it was as simple has having a better understanding of the English language and knowing what THEORY means.
Great idea. Expose the kids to evolutionary theory from grade 1 through 12 instead of the few hours they now get in high school. That way they will have enough information to make an informed decision, unlike now.
This would be the best and proper route to take in America.
That is very authoritarian of you. And what is to be done with those who refuse to obey such a foolish and stupid law? Are they to be fired? Fined? Jailed? Shot? With that attitude you would have fit right in with Stalin. Who else should we put away? Who knows, if it were not for the random circumstances of birth, you could have been a great Muslim fundamentalist.
Fortunately, people like you are where they belong, shouting at the wind on websites, eternally removed from such wetdreams of power.
Get real.
Creationism/ID is no more scientific that pink elves dancing on the moon.
