Five months ago City Manager Del Borgsdorf set the bar in San Jose's burgeoning technology scandal: City employees caught lying would be out of a job.
But now, city council members are deeply ambivalent about applying the same punishment to the city's top appointed official. An independent investigator concluded last week that Borgsdorf either lied or ran city government in such a way that his entire senior staff failed for months to tell him what they knew about an $8 million contract that favored Cisco Systems.

Criminality in their top officials doesn't bother Democrats the way it does Republicans.
Remember Mayor Bsrry of DC? And of course, Clinton? They will just keep electing immoral people. I was always sort of surprised they threw out Toricelli.
Republicans are obsessed with personal morality, Democrats with keeping public cash flowing and "tolerance".
Each will throw out their standard bearers for violating only their obsessions.

Did ya see where Mayor "Taj" Gonzales pulled some shenanigans, committee appointees-wise as well, and slighted his vocal opponents in so doing.
He actually underappointed council members to committees as a form of silent retaliation for anyone who has been critical of Taj's reign of mayhem and incompetence, influence peddling, and business as usual in a liberally infested city hall.
He sure does look out for his electorate, huh? ;-)
