I've thought about that. It will be very hard for another Republican to capture our hearts the way Dubya has.

And it wasn't just his response to 9/11! It drives me crazy the way they say he became a different person that day. There are LOTS of us on these threads who saw it during the 2000 campaign...that steel integrity. Yes, it was the very quality the country needed after 9/11...but it wasn't new.

I wasn't around here in 2000 but you can count me among those who recognized something special about the President during the 2000 campaign. I went to a campaign event as a naysayer, I left that event as a believer, telling everyone I knew that he was a sleeping giant. Little did I know what events would transpire.

The people of Texas, like me, have seen it a lot longer--although my first rememberence of Bush was as Texas Rangers owner. I live in the city they play in and used to see him in his box at the stadium. He was always talking to the fans and interacting with the players and families.

Then when he was Governor, he was the first one to admit that the schools were failing our children and made rules regarding no pass/no play, and also exit testing in order to graduate. Boy, the kids didn't like it, but the parents loved him for it.
