I went back to college to finish my Bachelor's when I was 34. There were many kids like the ones that you describe. There were also many earnest, hard-working kids.

I completed that degree and had a new baby then went to grad school. A whole different ball game! While I was 41, many of my classmates were only 24, but so driven! None of that diversity crap that I fumed through in undergrad. These kids were from all corners of the world: China, India, Japan, Poland, Russia, France, Turkey, Pakistan, etc. It was thrilling! I learned so much!

Congratulations on your great score! Hang in there!

Thanks! I won't be going that far in school but I've enjoyed the classes I have taken. I'm working toward a Quality Management Certification. I'm sure if I were in one of the grad schools the situation would be different. By the time they get that far, if they get that far, they are probably more serious. We did have a couple of young people that worked hard but the majority did not. I would be SO mad if my kid did that. She was raised like I was so she wasn't a problem. LOL

MY kids know what is expected of them. They are all boys and no one is tolerating any sloppy clothing or posture. No one better get a tattoo or a pierced ear, and do not call my friends by their first name. They are Mrs or Mr Whomever.

I chastised a kid when I was doing my undergrad for referring to our French teacher (who was a nun) and using a 4 letter word. I chastised another who thought he was being cute about relating a story about a drunken party and why he had missed class with "Are your folks paying for your schooling? Don't you owe them the respect to go to class?"

They both straightened up. Sometimes being an old broad has its advantages.

You did good! I can't imagine having boys. My one girl aged me. LOL My daughter is raising her daughter right though so I'm happy about that. I wish more parents raised kids like you do.

There are many good parents on this forum. Look at Tax-Chick's home page. She has 7 and is counting on more.

Britain's socialists (under Blair, Brown, & Co.) are busy dumbing down education, but the astounding thing is that in exams they beat other countries like Germany - which says a lot about Germany's socialists dumbing down German education. It could be called a race to the bottom.

Aw, you know I always include you in! You are an awesome example to us slackers with only two in the roost.

(I thought I was special and got the PJ pix exclusively in my email. *sniff*)

How are you and R and all the babies? Is James crawling yet or still slithering? {{TC}}

This reminds me of when Hilary clinton was in charge of Arkansas education and they literally skewed the teacher competency exams.

It is little surprise that in England where labor espouses the "third way" toward communism, would follow the same dumbing down as third way proponent Hilary?

Socialism needs a society of underachievers.
