Bubba now gets on the phone and starts to convince McCain, Giuliani, Whitman or Powell to run as a third party candidate to split up the conservative-moderate voters.
Our only hope is that her chief fundraiser, David Rosen, chooses to spill the beans over doing time! Hillary can't run for president if she's in jail!
(Current Tradesports odds Hillary #1 at 31.2-33.8 for the nomination, the Dems already 50.8-51.9 for winning the 2008 election!)
She ain't gonna run again for senator.
Of course, she will.
"The last time anybody made a list of the top hundred character attributes of New Yorkers, common sense snuck in at number 79." -Douglas Noel Adams (1952-2001)
"First of all, she has to get past a re-election campaign in 2006, and that means that she will (at some point) have to pledge that she will serve out a FULL term of office IF she is re-elected (because any challenger, if they've got the sense God gave a goose, will hammer her with that)."
Not really that much of a problem.
First, she'll make the pledge while winking at the crowd. They'll know she doesn't mean it and won't care.
After, re-election, she'll do a listening tour to select audiences who'll confirm that they want her to run.
Second, most of the democrats will think the defeat of the republicans completely justify this.
Third, too many women will swallow the 'it's time for a woman president' koolaid.
Fourth, Bill made the same pledge in Arkansaw.
Of all the scenarios you cite, Dean could screw up Hillary's chances the most. He could build the core Leftist base by a couple of million, and they will be intransigent about including Bayh or anything even remotely moderate in Hillary's world socialism platform.
If Hillary even gets the Democrat nomination, it would belie ALL the conventional wisdom that the past election was all about moral values and in review, Democrats realized they had to get some or at least put up a pretense that they had done so. A redux of the Clintons would serve as a slap in the face to those who turned out in droves supporting Bush.
In fact, if voter's concerns are really as all the surveys said -- the War in Iraq and values, then there's no way Democrats would stick Hillary up there. She would be one of the least likely Dem candidates to have a history and answers to allay voter concerns about those issues.
Don't leave out screamin' "Deanie weanie"
AMEN.
And, I hope they become an artist at getting her goat and goading her into saying outlandish things publically.
Bill won't be in the White House again. She'll bump him off with another heart attack special.
If hiterly gets in WOE UNTO US and AMERICA. This is something we better not let happen.
I disagree she has to run for re-election. She can declare she plans to run for the presidency and not run for the senate. She is only too aware of the fact if she loses her senate seat, or wins by an extremely narrow margin she will be somewhat damaged goods. Furthermore, the question everyone will ask while she is running is if she intends to complete her term, and she will either have to lie, or admit she is going to be a part time senator. Hillary has absolutely no interest in being a senator. All she wants is the White House and if she sees that gone she will leave the senate in a heartbeat.
Excellent logic and you covered all bases. Dittos. NSNR
All you say about bill is true but first he has to survive his heart surgery. The surgery was in Sept. and have you seen him lately? He is not looking like a well man. From all the people I know who have had open heart surgery, at this point, he looks like the one we knew who did not survive.
