This composite was produced from images returned yesterday, 14 January 2005, by ESA's Huygens probe during its successful descent to land on Titan. It shows a full 360-degree view around Huygens. The left-hand side, behind Huygens, shows a boundary between light and dark areas. The white streaks seen near this boundary could be ground 'fog', as they were not immediately visible from higher altitudes. As the probe descended, it drifted over a plateau (centre of image) and was heading towards its landing site in a dark area (right). From the drift of the probe, the wind speed has been estimated at around 6-7 kilometres per hour. These images were taken from an altitude of about 8 kilometres and a resolution of about 20 metres per pixel.

Color pictures of landing site and more available now at http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Cassini-Huygens/SEMC8Q71Y3E_1.html

Was going to do the same post, I'm glad someone did.
That press conference was unbelievable, particularly to someone who thought Alan Shepard's flight was great.
But can we get rid of the American reporter that focused on the negative? What an AHole! This mission has been and is a 99% success. (I'd say 100%, but I studied quantum mechanics, so I know nothing is a certainty.)

If that's a joke, it's a pretty good one.

And I was going to see if you would post it, but then I realized you are supposed to be sailing today.

Uncertainty is a certainty.

Thanks. Truth is not many people find the humor of a physics major. We can really be a laugh a minute :)

I will be. First race is at noon. Looks to be a nice day too. Sunny, 5kts of wind, and temp around 30F.
It could be worse, sail a boat in the seas of Titan, todays high is going to be 90K. I gather the wind is not too bad either, but we don't have specifics yet. I like stronger wind in the summer when the water is warmer. It's 41F at the Boston buoy right now.

Uncertainty is a certainty.

Befitting notion from someone with the handle of the Conch Shell Republic. It's race week down there right now. :)

I may not be as quick as I was when I was a student, but I'm not bad at research now. I've graduated to mentor status, which means I'm too slow to do much but race sail boats. They only go 5kts or so on a good day. :)

It's not fog. It's the only place in the Solar System that still allows smoking.
