I also love reading about real scientists doing real science. Does anyone have any good book recommendations?

"Does anyone have any good book recommendations?" I can direct you to some excellent anthropology/archaeology books...if you're interested in this area.

Fermat's Enigma by Simon Singh is excellent if your tastes run to mathematics.
Longitude The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time by Dava Sobel is also excellent.
