The demonic spiritual realm IS given power over this physical world to deceive:

I'm reminded of that old great 'Twilight Zone ET episode: 'To Serve Man'. Like sheep to slaughter, the citizens of this world climb aboard the alien spacecraft to points unknown after naively falling for the ruse, "We're here to HELP YOU."
