GOP's Perry banks $8 million for 2006 bid
FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry already has a $7.9 million campaign war chest heading into his 2006 re-election bid, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said Friday.
He may need it. State Treasurer Carole Keeton Strayhorn, who is likely to challenge him in the GOP primary -- if Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, does not enter the race -- has raised $5.7 million of her own.
"People in Texas are telling me to run for governor, and I am listening," Strayhorn said. A consistent Perry critic, Strayhorn turned in her best fund-raising performance ever with $2.25 million received between July and December 2004.
Strayhorn said she is not fully committed to a gubernatorial bid but would run for a job where she can "make the most difference." With Hutchison still rumored to be considering a gubernatorial run, it is possible that Perry, Strayhorn or both could decide to run for her open U.S. Senate seat instead.
Perry's announcement of his fund-raising totals come just days after he revealed that all of Texas' statewide officeholders -- with the exception of Strayhorn -- had endorsed him for re-election
If Strayhorn's estimate of her campaign "war chest" is as accurate as her estimates of the state's finances she may have anywhere between a million and ten million.
Who are these people? Are they imaginary people?
that's pretty funny.
probably member sof her immediate family... wait until don evans gets into the race... BOOM.
Perry, Strayhorn, Hutchison would make for a very interesting primary... but they won't all get into the race, imo. We may see some swapping as hinted at in the article where Hutchison runs for gov and Perry runs for the Senate..... Strayhorn outdrew Perry in the 2000 General but drew less in the primary where they both were unopposed.
2000 General = 2002 General
It's easy to get this kind of campaign cash when your business is selling a judicial bench to every big city law firm that walks in the door.
Of course you meant 2002 where the Perry's opponent spent over 80 Million dollars and lost by 17% points verses phony UT football player who ran against one mean monogram?
Get your facts straight Perry would crush all comers. Republicans always dance with the one who brung'em. The seven new Republican congressman and $10 billion budget short fall closed with no new taxes. Now that's quite a dance!

Welcome to FR... Why don't you fly your state flag....
Guess someone wants to build a ROAD really badly .... I hate this guy already.
What is wrong with you? Don't you share Perry's dream to not only tax us at the pump, but also tax us again by converting all of Texas into toll roads?
because i live and work in DC for now.
