Sink, he is actually pretty careful to tiptoe around Dowd's personal life in the article. He does comment that she is unhapy; I don't think that one is so hard to call. He makes comments about what men are like and then criticizes feminism and some of Dowd's ASSUMPTIONS her own writing exposes. He does a pretty good job keeping his discussion on her views as she chose to publicize them in her column.

All fair play, even for a man with multiple divorces.

I think you're not reading the actual article Rush wrote, but the one he might have written if he hadn't smacked his own hand a couple times. But smack he does.

When he says men need approval, he means, in his case, Empire-State-building-sized approval, and fawning, and ego-massaging.

And you know this how?

I see them possibly being friends at some point

They did have a dinner date between Rush's #2 and #3 marriages. Here is Mo's account of it, as published in Newsweek last year LINK

" New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd spent a revealing dinner date with Limbaugh in 1993. “What I do in my off time has nothing to do with what I am,” he told Dowd. “I don’t go to movies. I’ve been to a couple of plays. I basically work. I don’t watch television. I watch the news and the N.F.L.; that’s it.” Dowd recounted this mournful snippet of conversation: ‘What’s your idea of an ideal day?’ ‘I don’t have an ideal day,’ he replied, glumly. ‘Well, what if a good friend came into town one Saturday, what would you do?’ ‘When I have someone coming into town for the weekend, I get stressed out on Tuesday thinking about it’.” Limbaugh went on to say that he hates walking, hates window-shopping and likes New York mainly because you can order in."

You are entitled to believe that Rush is just a self-effacing little wallflower in personal relationships, if you wish.

I think Rush should send Mo a copy of Dr. Laura's latest best-seller "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands". That would really send her over the edge.

A more compassionate gift would be a kitten or a puppy, one of those fluffy little lap dogs.

A simple response of "I like cheese" would have been as good of a nonanswer to my question as your nonanswer.

Look it is all very simple

What women want, it's 4 animals...
A tiger in bed
A jaguar in the drive way
A mink around back
And an ass to pay for it all

The 5 things a man needs
A good lover
A good listener
A good mother to his children
An honest woman
And for these 4 women never to meet :-)

Sink obviously has negative feelings toward Rush, and he/she is entitled to them. I'm just puzzled as to why sink would feel the need to post on this thread.

"As for men's attraction to women of subordinate status, it has nothing to do with their presumed lack of intelligence. It has everything to do with the fact powerful women look down on men and try to control them. Guys don't like it"

and vice versa baby. *wink* Powerful men do in fact "control" their women (yes plural too) Powerful men like having and manipulating multiple relationships all at once. And guess what we women DO NOT LIKE IT EITHER. Male double standards are okay so long as the man sets the double standard rules. I think western men secretly deep down envy middle eastern men and their HAREMS. *smirk*

"She could swallow her own face. Might be an improvement."

Uh I do believe Neal Boortz has that trick perfected. He's got enough jowl under his double chin resembling a barking pelican. (snicker)

"Can we just move on??????"

We all know how easily bored you get. We also know we were not put on earth to entertain you. So maybe it is you who should move on.

I hate to speculate on this, but Rush is into toys, and a woman, eventually, becomes just a toy to Rush, that he tires of, and gets rid of.

Sounds about right to me.

"I will only tell you that this notion that men, in general, want a bunch of airhead, dippy, brainless, not even know how to talk partners is an absolute crock -- unless they are like that themselves."

Amen!

mmm... interesting. I still think his personality has undergone some more change.. back then. Rush was more a pariah than an acknowledged pundit. Yet, fame has its price and Rush was very recognizable by that time so its not a wonder his life had become insular.

Anyway, I have seen this sort of stuff about Rush before, I am pretty sure I have heard him talk about this on air to a small extent. He is rich but there are sacrifices, but I think you will find that is the truth for most extremely famous people. Its cool to get this bit of context. Thanks tons!

If I had the opportunity I would ask Rush Limbaugh, why does he bore his listeners with Maureen Dowd's dreary and depressing articles about her lack of ability to look at her ownself to find her happiness rather than as most liberals do on what the other person, or government program can do for her?

Moreover, what a waste of our time investment in listening to Rush who must be absolutely bored to tears to have to resort to Dowd's latest hysterical hormonal screech.

And frankly, Rush Limbaugh is not the best man, married, single, or in between marriages to talk about these matters.

I think if Rush wants to embark on these painful excursions into the thinking of Dowd's bitter confusion as to why she can't find a man who can send her to heavenly delights of passion, then Rush ought to be a lot more honest with his listeners about his own lack of ability to find the best woman, if he is so inclined at this stage of his life, to spend the rest of his hopefully long and happy life with.

Furthermore, if he is still dating the lady from CNN I hope she is not having any say about what he discusses on his program because the last three days of his show this week have been utter nonsense and something I would expect to hear from an air head liberal talk show, except a few bright moments of deep political discussion.

Lately, I'm wondering what am I doing investing three hours hearing things that are of such meaningless blather, I'd never want to hear it again.

If I had an opportunity to talk to Rush I'd say, please stick with the wild and unruly world of politics and leave the unpredictable unhappy world of the Maureen Dowds to the trash heap of their own making.
