205th IA detain suspected attackers and financier in Muqdadiyah MUQDADIYAH, Iraq—Iraqi Army soldiers from the 205th IA Battalion detained four individuals in connection with an attack on the battalion Sergeant Major’s home in Muqdadiyah on Jan. 11. The suspects voluntarily gave information that led to the arrest of another man suspected of paying for the attack. That suspect was also detained.

IPS, 1st ID Soldiers visit residents and collect weapons BAQUBAH, Iraq—1st Infantry Division Soldiers from Task Force 1-6 Field Artillery and Iraqi police went door-to-door in the Suwamara neighborhood of Baqubah on Jan. 11 looking for illegal weapons. The joint operation, called “Operation Centaur New Year,” collected rifles, shotguns, machine guns, ammunitions and explosives. Two individuals were also detained.

Operation Powder River collects 12th cache AD MOTISSIM, Iraq—Iraqi Army soldiers from the 203rd IA Battalion, along with 1st Infantry Division Soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, uncovered a cache of weapons and munitions near Ad Motissim on Jan. 11. The discovery was the twelfth cache found during “Operation Powder River. The Soldiers found six AK-47 assault rifles, 24 155mm artillery rounds, 31 grenades, 34 rocket propelled grenades, 15 pounds of explosive and blasting caps.

Tikrit emergency response saves lives TIKRIT, Iraq—Iraqi police and emergency personnel responded to a car bombing near the provincial police headquarters in Tikrit on Jan. 11 and may have prevented a greater tragedy. The police had begun to investigate a suspicious vehicle when the car bomb exploded. Iraqi Army soldiers established checkpoint around the city, while emergency personnel evacuated the casualties.

203rd IA holds memorial service for soldiers killed in Jan. 2 attack BALAD, Iraq—Iraqi Army and 1st Infantry Division Soldiers gathered on Jan. 10 to hold a memorial for 20 soldiers from the 203rd IA Battalion, killed in a car bomb attack near Balad last week. Coalition commanders paid their respects and civic leaders also attended the service.

205th IA troops defend CP against attack in Al Mansuriyah MANSURIYAH, Iraq—Iraqi Army soldiers from the 205th IA Battalion successfully defended their checkpoint against an attack from anti-Iraqi forces on Jan.10. The soldiers, led by Col. Thear directed illumination to expose the AIF positions to return fire, thwarting the attack. There were no casualties reported.
