Adams tells republicans 'resist'
BBC NEWS ^ | January 13,2005 | BBC

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams has said that republicans must be ready to "resist any attempts to discriminate against them". Speaking about the £26.5m Northern Bank robbery, Mr Adams said Chief Constable Hugh Orde had no evidence to back up his claim that the IRA carried it out.

He warned republicans against "knee-jerk" reactions.

"But be ready to resist any attempts to discriminate against our electorate," Mr Adams added.

'Deeply damaging'

He said resistance should be in the form of "entirely peaceful democratic strategies".

"He said resistance should be in the form of -entirely peaceful democratic strategies-."

Let's hope they stick with that plan.

A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. I remeber Margaret Thatcher's comparing Bill Clinton's having this slime to the White House with the PM asking the Oklahoma Bomber over to Downing Street.

That POS Adams must be feeling very sick, because they stole so much all, the notes are cancelled.

Just when he thought he'd hit the jackpot, he finds out he ain't got squat. Serves the terrorist scumbag right.

The shame of it all is that Bush should have been putting pressure on both sides to keep going ahead with the peace process.

I'm hoping they go with the "pen is mightier than the sword"
approach. I feel sorry for the children growing up in that environment. I see where it leads because Gerry Adams was only nineteen when he started getting involved with Sinn Fein.

I still have my doubts. I think the robbery may have been orchestrated by the other side or by the break away group of the IRA.

Not at all--what pressure is any outside force going to bring to bear that will change the Irish-British dynamic? Bush's guy was in Ireland on 9-11 and told Adams terrorism of any kind was not acceptable to the US.

I'm so sick of other countries not being able to get their act together and begging the US to somehow mediate and create peace. Adams and his crew are going to have to decide to live peacefully--Bush isn't going to pat him on the head and hold his hand and talk nice to him and make it nice. Someone tell Adams to grow the hell up.

If Adams were a Protestant killing Catholics would you hate him as much?

Well we've at least determined you aren't opposed to his actions due to anti-Catholicism.

Do you regard George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, et al to be heroes?

What on Earth are you babbling about? Who are you and what are you going on about? If you want to side with that piece of filth Adams, go right ahead but have the guts to stop with the prissy "revealing" questions and come forth with a position for discussion or shut up.

Why do you think they should be killed? Aren't you decending to their level? It is reasonable to question the sanity and fairness of using the events of 9/11 to justify attacking groups that weren't even involved with 9/11.

Bush goes too far in supporting a war against all groups that are labeled as "terrorist organizations" by the country that they live in.

It is reasonable to demand that each situation must be dealt with according to the history of each situation. Lumping all of them together requires a absolute certainty that the governments are always right and the groups the governments around the world attack are not being attacked unfairly.

Oh, you mean the vaunted "peace process" where the IRA thugs continue to kill protestants, catholics, English, Irish, Jews, Americans and Lithuanians in the name of "international brotherhood and progressive action?" That peace process.

A .22 double tap in Mr. Adams forehead is in order. Of course this is after administering a very IRA/Sinn Fein knee capping to him and his family in the name of revolutionary solidarity.

Yep. You're right. It's Bush's fault. He hasn't been doing enough to pursue "peace."

The provisional wing of the IRA carries out the crime, and the Sinn Fein runs interference for them. I blame them both! Reminds me of the Clintons and the MSM.

I think the robbery may have been orchestrated by the other side or by the break away group of the IRA.

The van used in the robbery was recorded crossing the border at Forkhill in South Armagh just hours before the raid was carried out, making it almost certainly the work of the Provos and not the loyalists. And the IRA is well known for bank heists and robberies as a means of financing its operations. At this point its a near-certainty that they are the culprits.

England will only respond to pressure from the outside. After 400 to 500 years we can safely assume the British will not solve the problem themselves.

The truth of the matter is that if the United States diplomatically recognizes Ireland's claim to North Ireland and diplomatically rejects Britain's claim to North Ireland
the matter would be resolved. Britain needs the US more than the US needs Britain. It would be nice to keep Britain as our ally though. The truth is Britain will not buck the US decision. We can fix the problem with the stroke of a pen.

Sinn Fein hasn't been running interference for them. The Protestants didn't have the patience for the investigators to do their work. The Protestants demanded immediate condemnation without even having a particular suspect.

The irony is that the Protestants and the police chief have acted in a way that will hamper the investigation, but that is ok they weren't really interested in justice and peace they were just interested in the helicopters.

If we had a President with balls the shared government would be in place and Paisley would be where he belongs; in prison.

That doesn't prove which branch of the IRA was involved nor does it actually prove any branch was involved. It is a good hint though, but it isn't proof by itself. Try grasping the principle of due process for a change.
