(2005-01-13) -- Democrats in the Senate promised a filibuster today for a Republican-sponsored measure that would allow construction of a 500-foot-tall pyramid on the National Mall in Washington D.C. to commemorate President George Bush's second inauguration.
The presidential pyramid groundbreaking ceremony adds another highlight to the $40 million inaugural festivities, decried by Democrats as a waste of money.
Constructed primarily of 4,000-pound stone blocks, the $750 million facility will be funded by private contributions from Bush supporters, many of whom were nearly bankrupted by bankrolling the president's reelection campaign.
While Senate Republicans hailed the project as "a boon to blue-collar workers in the local construction industry," Democrats said the $750 million would be better spent on the victims of disaster in South Asia and in the U.S. public school system.
"It's shameful that Americans are spending money on anything during these terrible times," said one unnamed Democrat Senator, "but to spend millions to honor a man who has devastated our economy, destroyed our global reputation and made America a curse on the lips of peace-loving Muslims everywhere...this is inconceivable."
Site plans for the monument include a drawing of a 65-foot tall Sphinx -- a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of Karl Rove, the president's political advisor.
Pinging the usual suspects!
(anyone wanting on or off the satire ping list, let me know!)
Sounds good to me, where do I donate?
Well, as long as we don't outsource the work. ;^)
I'd like to see someone work up that Carl Rove Sphinx...it'd be very funny to see.
WHAT - I CANT BELIEVE THE LIBERALS ARE TRYING TO DO THIS TO US AGAIN!!!
(yes I know it is scrappleface...just wanted to be the first)
.
Forget the stone blocks, just keep making pyramids out of naked terrorists!

"peace-loving Muslims..."
LMMFAO!!! Peace-loving my A$$!!! P-I-E-C-E-S loving maybe, but peace-loving is absolute SH$T!
I still think the Trade Towers should be built back in the form of a 2000' high hand, middle finger extended and facing East.
Actually I heard it was a $750 Billion project! Its to be a dual usage pyramid.
The 500,000 foot pyramid would reach orbital altitide and act as the first step in creating a cheaper method to get materials into orbit for the Presidents proposed effort to put Americans on Mars.
"Its a new concept," said Dr. Dimpleworth head of the planning committee "and may serve as an example for dual usage Washington momuments of the future."
Hey wait a minute, Carl's a bright guy and all but come on! Have you ever seen the kisser on that guy's face?
But wouldn't it be fun to post at DU?
"But wouldn't it be fun to post at DU?"
You bet. Count me in!
Heck we might even cause a couple of those clowns to have apoplexy.
Once again I am compelled to remind you all that the correct term for "clown" is "comedic entertainer" and inferring that anyone at DU is a "clown" is an insult to comedic entertainers everywhere...we take our humor seriously.
"Just as I get a Obelisk taller than the Washington monument to commemorate my interns, whoops, turns with the American People and trying to give Israel to Arafat."
/Sarcasm Off
'No you don't Bill. If I am president, I'll put your piece in my lockbox and throw away the key'
/Sarcasm OFF
Geez, I don't know why they have to BUILD a pyramid, why don't they just fly one in from that Stargate SG-1 place?
My apologies to comedic entertainers everywhere. You are indeed right. Comparing them to DU denizens is vastly unkind of me.
I'll run right out and sign up for a sensitivity course.
