The A and B rated states like California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts all have cities that compete for the envious title of "Murder capital of the US". I'm guessing District of Columbia would be in the As too if they included it.
The "F" grade stands for Freedom. Be proud and count yourself lucky if you live in a D or F state!

Thirty-one states get a "D" or an "F" in measurements of the gun laws in those states, according to nationwide ratings released today by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March... Why don't they come out and state that the top-graded area for gun control is Washington, D.C.? Oh, that's right! It's the murder capital of the world!
And no, boys & girls, it ain't a coincidence.

Maryland is an A rated state and one of the most violent as well. Violent crime leader of the country, I think.

I'd like to see a list of the different points states are graded on. What kind of criteria does a state have to meet to get a good grade?
And what kind of sentencing laws do the judges and parole boards in these states actually follow?

In the eighth year of the release of the grades, only three states actually changed grades, two for the worse and one for the better.During that time gun crimes have continued to decline in the lowest rated states.

Overall, there is concern wet noodle violence in some states could increase in 2005 because Congress failed to renew the federal wet noodle ban.Overall, there is concern happiness and security in some states could increase in 2005 because Congress failed to renew the federal happiness and security ban

Baltimore, where my cousin works, is really bad. But what is the percentage of gun-related crime?
To: boofus
only three states actually changed grades, two for the worseOn the flip side I'll bet the crime stats for these mystery states have shown some improvement too.

It's chilling to see how really misinformed the people at the Brady Bunch are.

DC's GUN BAN has been IN FORCE since 1974!
THIRTY-ONE YEARS!
And their MURDER rate is nearly 800% cumulative since then!
Stupid is as stupid does.
In Virginia, since 1995, when the CCW law came into being, OUR crime has GONE DOWN 45% since the thugs moved BACK to DC and MD where the bad bad guns are a no no...if you are an honest citizen that is.

Can't seem to get Alabama's grade. The boneheads have linked Alaska's doc to the Alabama selection.

Ohio, which saw its grade fall from a "D-plus" to a "D-minus" because the state passed a dangerous new law that forces police to let almost anyone carry hidden handguns in public;
What a crock! What's dangerous about responsible citizens carrying protection for themselves? At least in Texas, the CCL certification is not automatic.
