The turmoil forced Mr. Sharon to put together a new coalition after his previous government collapsed over the issue and he is now relying on left-wing parties for support. Opinion polls consistently show Israelis in favor of the withdrawal plan. Nevertheless, Likud opponents want Mr. Sharon to hold a nationwide referendum on the matter, a move the prime minister has rejected and labeled a mere stalling tactic.

Ariel Sharon is probably the strongest and best Prime Minister we have had since Menachem Begin. Our economy has radically improved over the past two years and deaths and injuries from terrorism are way down thanks to the security fence and resolute IDF action ordered by this Prime Minister.
You, like the Palestinians, prefer "wall" even where it's a chain-link "wall", as in over most of it's length. Some wall. Oh, and Labour, including Shimon Peres, support the fence. The Prime Minister Ehud Barak originally proposed it and unilateral separation as a response to the Palestinians starting their war against us.
