If this is true, then it was all a big publicity stunt, and those involved in it should be embarrassed.

Well, it is true; and you have to ask yourself WHY those groups felt the need to do this; other than dividing Republicans, of course.

I think that WND got the story from Wildmon and the AFA and the other group involved in the letter-writing campaign (the CWA?). They didn't check the story out properly, and issued news releases that the WND gobbled up willingly.

As to why, I believe these groups are now attempting to assert control over the GOP. And they're doing it whether what they say is the truth or not. Apparently, now, there was no truth to the booking of Kid Rock in the first place. So, these groups manufactured a letter-duping campaign and fired up their members to write these letters, based on an untruth.

The extreme Christian right seems to believe that they, alone, are responsible for GWB being re-elected. That's ridiculous, of course. Every group that voted for Bush is partly responsible for his re-election, and that even includes Kid Rock fans.

Perhaps this will tone down these groups. I doubt it, though.

As always, follow the money. Now these groups will get to claim to their followers that they were instrumental in "holding the President's feet to the fire" (to quote an old friend of ours)... that only through their intervention was decency upheld.

Their followers will see that that God has blessed them by providing these watchdogs to advance His holy interests. They will provide more funding.

As for WND, they've become as bad as that other "news" website that seems to specialize in reporting out of context what someone said on TV.
