I always thought it was because many men (including myself) prefer intelligent women over empty fluff.

This is just semantics, but there can be a difference between intelligent (sensible) and I.Q. (smart)..
A Master's Degree in medicine does not guarantee a good "bedside manner"..
Likewise, all the education in the world won't help a woman that can't understand when to shut up and let a man BE a man..

I’ve always believed that education does not equate with intelligence. In reference to the women mentioned in the article – “…secretaries, assistants, nannies, caterers, flight attendants, researchers and fact-checkers.”:
Secretaries, assistants, researchers and fact-checkers all would have to be reasonably intelligent. Even nannies and flight attendants would need more basic intelligence than an actress.
