Sorry, but I think that's probably still a conservative estimate. They don't have to hype it to get lots of money. That is all happening anyway.
Sometimes there are bona fide disasters of epic proportions, and this is one of those times.
I am with Ramius on this one. I just recently heard that they are just beginning to dig the bodies out of the mud.
It's more than reasonable to expect that the death toll because of the tsunami will continue to rise dramatically for months to come.
I Agree; prayers for the survivors and the victims.
No telling how many accumulations there are like this, but the mass of this huge floating debris pile is at least half human bodies. (Scroll to the bottom of the image...)
It has been reported that ships are encountering floating corpses many miles out to sea.
IMHO, no one will ever know the full magnitude of this loss of life.
There was an earthquake in China approx. 1976 with 800,000 reported casualties.
I think you are right. I think India had many more deaths than they report, 15 thousand last I saw. But when you consider they have about 3-4 times the length of coastline effected than Sri Lanka (which lost 48 thousand), and they being the second most populous country in the world, I'll bet they lost at least 100k.
