Another truly asinine and mid-boggling thing about the report is that it says CBS aired the story when it did due to intense competitive pressure and the desire to be on the air with the story first. Pure Barbara Streisand. The story had been investigated by all members of the MSM ever since the 1994 Texas gubernatorial election and they'd all come up with nothing. In light of that, a normal person, not obsessively driven by anti-Bush bias, would conclude that nothing was there.
At the same time, CBS had the biggest story of the entire election lying at its feet on the ground waiting to be picked up, a story that would have really drawn a massive audience and scooped all the rest of the MSM--the Swiftvets. Unlike the Bush TANG story, the Swiftvets' charges against Kerry were fully documented and supported by all the men in his chain of command, nearly all of whom had direct personal knowledge of what they were talking about. There was also an investigative reporter's gold mine in why Kerry steadfastly refused to sign the standard Form 180 and release his full military records, the probable explanation being that he originally received a less than honorable discharge.
Instead of going for the reporter's equivalent of the mother lode, CBS went for a mess of recycled garbage supported by a paranoid kook. If that doesn't prove bias, nothing else can. The report totally missed this.
