Tancredo is being willfully disingenuous in this latest exercise of self-aggrandizement. He said 180+ Republicans are against any amnesty. There is no amnesty in the President's proposal. That's an ongoing deceit foisted by the demagogues. There are sanctions and fines and vettings involved in the regularization program.

President Bush is not going to make any formal proposal that will engender the opposition of 180 House Republicans, and the House Republicans would never initiate such legislation in the face of such opposition. This is just another example of a powerless backbencher positioning himself for a national run.
