1994 ..Assault rifles banned for ten years..

Sorry to nitpick, but assault rifles have been tightly controlled since 1934 because, by definition, an assault rifle is capable of full automatic fire. In 1994 assault weapons were defined as semi-auto, military look alike rifles with more than 2 of 5 evil features and they were banned for 10 years.

**Sorry to nitpick, ***

I am very much aware that true assault rifles and machine guns have been banned or taxed out of existance since 1934.

Gun owners are their own worst enemy.
when the banners wanted to ban only handguns Gun owners took them at their word.
Many magazines and periodicals of the late 1970's and 1980's called their military style rifles ASSAULT RIFLES. Guns and Ammo mag produced several magazines by that name, and other magazines followed till Pat Purdy cut loose in a school yard with one.
Only then did the gun owners begin to call them SEMI-auto assault style rifles or MILITARY style semi auto sporting rifles.
By then the Hounds of Hell had gotten on the scent and any firearm that holds too many rounds is either an assault rifle or assault pistol.
The current rage is the "evil .50 cal sniping rifle, the choice of criminals!"

Sorry to nitpick...

Assault rifles do not exist, except in the minds of the media, hollywood, and rather stupid "represenatives". All of these weapons are classified as "small arms". As such, they are insignificant in the scheme of things, or should be.

Now to get really nitpicky, even crew served weapons belong in the hands of the citizen. Even as late as the Civil War, cannons were purchased by civic organizations and donated to the military units that were formed around local gentlemen who formed units.
