Perhaps it refers to Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever, who is transported to The Land: I doubt that they were refering to a leper who happens to also be a rapist.

1) Of course they were not refering to that anti-heroic leper, and 2) if that is all you got out of the story, then that is unfortunate. It's also a series of books about redemption and the human condition; a more gut-wrenching look at good vs evil than most any other fant series. He is after all, as I say, an anti-hero.
At any rate, from reading the responses to my off-the-cuff post, one can see that many folks have different strong reactions to Thomas Covanent, which I'm sure the author would like to see, especially since the first book in a new series of 4 just came out. ;-)
