I have a cable modem. Why would I want to clog it up with bittorrents? And wouldn't my ISP frown on such actions?

It won't clog it up. Ironically, the more users, the faster the download.

A liberal at Stanford got permission from the producers of "Outfoxed" to distribute a substantial portion of the film over BitTorrent. The 500MB file was downloaded 1,500 times for a total bandwidth crunch of a stratospheric 750 GB! But with BT, the stress on the bandwidth provider was only 5 GB! That's a 99.33% reduction in bandwidth!
