One Central Texas high school band is scrambling to raise enough money for a trip to play for President Bush's inauguration.
It's ten days away, but the Crawford High Band still needs to raise more than $25,000 to make the trip.
They may sound like an ordinary high school band, but who they're practicing to play for is anything but ordinary.
Four years ago, the Crawford High School Band was bussed to Washington D.C. to play at President Bush's inauguration parade. And now they've been asked to do it again, but they just need to raise enough money to make the trip.
Band Director Paul Thronburg says, Kids from a small community don't always get this type of opportunity, so it's going to be a great educational experience as well as a fun time.
The band will play six songs in the parade, but in order to go, they need to raise $56,000. So far, organizers have raised about half the money needed, but now they're getting some help from a local celebrity. Rock star Ted Nugent is holding a benefit concert this Saturday and all the proceeds will go to the band trip.
For the students, it's a chance to experience something unlike anything else.
I'm really hoping I'm going see some snow, says one student.
It will be exciting being in the parade, says another. I think everybody will have a good time and I think everybody is ready for it.
But there will be one small change from the last time instead of a 30-hour bus ride, this time they're flying.
The benefit concert will be Saturday night at 8:00pm at the Crawford High School gym. Tickets are $20. For information on tickets, you can call 723-4853.
What a guy! Those students (and their parents) must be really thrilled about this!
I second that emotion.
That's really cool. What a great opportunity for the kids!
Why doesn't he just give them the 56 grand?
instead of a 30-hour bus ride, this time they're flying.
Im guessing that the chaperones of the last 30-hour bus ride recommended this move, in a communiqué from the insane asylum.
I thought Ted was from Michigan.
Why doesn't he just give them the 56 grand?
Because Ted hasnt sold a record since 1978?
bttt
Do you know the area code for the # provided? Thanks in advance!
Crawford is 254.
Ah. Thanks.
Thanks! I'll be there for sure!!
The town supported him. The local newspaper did not
Cool! Nugent rocks!
I'll be working that night....
Ted runs a very successful outdoorsman shop. I think all internet now plus he has a company that makes food products from wild game like deer jerky and such. plus he still tours and the times I have been it is always sold out.
:)
