I guess I'll have to satisfy myself with my Ruger .480.
Somebody probably dropped the dang thing on their foot.
They don't realize that they are stoking the fire and the water is almost boiling.
You know, I don't shoot anything that large... but, golly, I think I might just start. :) Rick in Colorado
The one instance I've heard referenced involved being so close to the target that caliber & range capability was practically irrelevant.
Shootin' a .50 is like drinkin' out of a spitoon.
Once you start, there ain't no end to it.
Most of your post I agree with, but that particular part is incorrect.
There are both soft and hard target interdiction courses being taught now, but the majority of the training is pointed toward hard targets which are difficult to access from a close range - close being less than a thousand yards.
A .50 caliber sniper usually has a spotter whose only function is to do the calculations necessary to put the round on the target at ranges exceeding a thousand yards.
It's a science, not Kentucky windage, except for naturals like White Feather.
Lots of people hunt big game animals with .50 caliber weapons.
None of this eliminates the fact that our right to bear arms shall not be infringed - period!
I'll be buying an M-99 real soon. Something tells me the price will be going up as they close in on banning them.
I've got the M99, and it's one sweet shooting weapon.
I'm not an accuracy nut. I've shot with a lot of them at gun ranges, and they remind me of the golfers who wrap their sand wedge around a tree when they don't hit the ball out of the bunker.
I shoot for pleasure. I know I'll never be as good as I once could have been so I don't worry about 2 MOAs at a thousand yards.
I just like to bust caps, make a lot of noise and have fun.
The .50 caliber Barrett M-99 is perfect for that.

Despite the Justice Department's acknowledgement that the Second Amendment bestows an individual right, and despite the sunset of the inappropriately named, "assault weapons" ban, gun control remains a force that threatens Americans on a daily basis.
Gun banners have take their fight to the local levels aiming to ban various types of firearms in cities and states across the country. California, for example, is the first state in the union to ban the .50 caliber rifle, despite the fact that there have been no instances of a crime used with a .50 caliber rifle in that state. San Francisco is proposing a complete ban on handgun ownership and sales within city limits.
Chicago and New York are proposing a variety of restrictions that originated in California including limiting firearm purchases to one per month and banning private party firearm purchases at gun shows.
Anti-gun organizations are trying to stay out of the media, preferring to keep their actions under the radar and thereby prevent any opposition. By lulling Americans into a false sense of security, they hope to build up momentum across the country. If successful, they will stand a better chance of destroying the Second Amendment during the next Presidential administration.

We have the best sniper force with the best equipment with the best training in our military that the world has ever seen.
You can read about the marksmanship records being set in civilian match tournaments, but you're not ever going to read about the SEAL sniper team armed with a McMillan .50 caliber taking out a Scud missle launcher at a mile and a half.
You're not going to read about a Marine sniper team armed with a .50 caliber Barrett M82A-1 taking out several jihadis armed with RPGs at 2000 meters.
These are not snipers in the ordinary sense because few snipers who are proficient with the 7.62 or 5.56 can operate the .50 with any proficiency without extensive training. It's a whole different ballgame, and these guys have earned every kill.
The military doesn't want anyone to know how good they really are.
White Feather would be proud of our snipers today.
It's a whole different ballgame, and these guys have earned every kill.
Those guys can shoot better.
Hey, wait a minute!!!
We have seen some pictures to attest to that!
Remember the headache picture?
Yeah, the strike looked a bit high.
Well, he was trying to save the shoulder mount.
