the MAIN reason that our ancestors failed in THEIR struggle for LIBERTY was that the WBTS was a PEASANT REVOLT, led by a FEW professionals like Lee & Jackson!

peasant revolts seldom succeed. (the ONLY one i can think of is the war in Indochina against the French!)

that lack of enough experienced leaders, is why the loss of the PEERLESS Stonewall was near FATAL to the war in the east & Franklin (where we lost almost every experienced general officer at that place/time)was FATAL, period.

we simply did NOT have enough of ANYTHING (except GUTS!) to win a war of independence from a MUCH larger, richer & more populous enemy nation. in the final analysis, GUTS was simply not enough.

I don't think saying the North defeated the South is the best description. I favor saying that the Union defeated the Confederacy. There were Northerners in the North (Copperheads) who favored the Confederacy. There were even more Southerners who favored the Union. Could the Union have prevailed without the significant Unionist presence in the South? It is irrelevant to those who love the UNITED States, but the answer may be adverse to the thoughts of Northern regional chauvinists.
