Thousands join anti-disengagement pray-in held in Jerusalem

Thousands of protestors, including numerous rabbis, turned out for an anti-disengagement protest held in Jerusalem on Monday. The protestors stood for two hours outside the city's government buildings, including the Knesset and the Prime Minister's Office, reciting Biblical verses and praying for "an end to the disengagement order and to the uprooting of settlements."
Throngs of rabbis, including former chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, called out verses of Psalms, which the crowd repeated back to them.
The kabbalist Yehoshua Ben-Shoshan, previously a member of the Jewish Underground, an organization which planned to bomb the Dome of the Rock mosque 25 years ago, also helped lead the prayers.
The protest accompanied a settlers' sit-down strike, which is also being held in the area of the Knesset and entered its seventh day Monday. The strike was temporarily called off Monday.
The vast majority of those who came to identify with the strikers came from the national-religious and ultra-Orthodox communities.
Such demonstrations are indicative of a change in the strategy of the anti-disengagement movement. The movement is relying less on established sources of support, and more on an appeal to the wider community. At the same time, it has embraced the use of public protest, what appears to be the sole channel left to opponents of the pullout, who have apparently exhausted all political avenues of blocking the plan.
This new strategy is best summed up by the phrase "taking the Holy Ark into the street," which refers to the use of Judaism during a period of great trouble, such as a long drought or war.

You didn't see much of it in the Main Stream Media (MSM) but the conflict continues to escalate in the growing campaign for the Israelis to pull out of Gaza and certain areas of the West Bank, an issue any Evangelical supporter of Israel and the Jews should be watching closely.
One Haaretz article reported, "The evacuation of two caravans from a West Bank outpost turned particularly violent on Monday as Israeli security forces and settlers clashed. An IDF soldier, a resident of the nearby settlement Yitzhar, was arrested during the scuffle. The soldier was on a furlough from his army service, but was dressed in his army uniform as his joined 200 or so other settlers in disrupting the evacuation of the Givat Shalhevet outpost. The soldier apparently called on the other soldiers not to participate in the evacuation."
That soldier's name is Yosef Pilent of Yitzhar. Yossi was arrested and tried in the presence of his commanding officers after his request for a trial before a military court was rejected. He was sentenced to 28 days in a military prison for "unsuitable behavior," as reported at Chabad.org.
I will state it again, the American Evangelical Christian community is opposed to any type of retreat or "pull back" by the Jews in Israel in their war on Islamic terrorism, especially under American pressure. Their enemies cannot be reasoned with or negotiated with. History proves this, and this jeopardizes Israel's security in the future, especially if another terrorist state is set up, represented in a "Palestinian nation." Full on war will be the inevitable outcome.
Seeing conflict like this within Israeli Jewish culture is extremely disappointing, especially the loss of those Jews who sacrifice much to resettle their rightful land. Yet, this is just one small part of the grand plan of HaShem to rebuild the House of Israel.
My deepest respects and regards to Yosef Pilent of Yitzhar for his principled stand. It will pay off in the long run.

WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
If things come to a head:
1) Would general elections be held in Israel?
2) Does Benyamin Netanyahu have a chance of winning such elections and becoming the next P.M.?
I'll tell you what really disturbs me. I think the Israel system of elections is just as desperately in need of reforms as the Palestinians. How much more F****d up can it possibly be if no matter who wins any election, they still get stuck with Shimon Peres?
Good point.
They always get stuck with these coalitions.
Do not misunderestimate antidisengagementestablishmentarianism
I disagree completely. The same opponents are getting more vocal and taking more direct action is all. With the new government disengagement is a done deal.
Sharon is leading the country into a civil war.
You have this completely backwards. A limited number of extremists are trying to provoke a civil war.
If he does not allow the people to vote on the issue but just bulls ahead, the result will weaken the Isreali publics support for the Government beyond its limits.
I don't see it. He is going ahead. Like I said, with the backing of Labour, UTJ, and Yahad from the opposition it's a done deal. 13 Likud rebels are not sufficient to block it. No amount of protest is either so long as two thirds of Israelis support disengagement.
Only is 61 MKs vote to bring down the government. That is highly unlikely.
2) Does Benyamin Netanyahu have a chance of winning such elections and becoming the next P.M.?
First he would have to win the Likud primary. It is not at all clear he is popular enough in the party to do that right now. Shaul Mofaz is a very strong candidate and you can never count out Prime Minister Sharon.
I will say this: any anti-disengagement candidate loses a general election.
The Media tells you that 2/3rds support surrender, but Sharon is afraid of a vote. That tells me far more.
Blessings
Before Sharon changed the rules, he would have been out on his arse a long time ago. It seems the only way he can get his way is fire those who vote against him, and change the rules of goverment to favor his survival. The guy is a putz, and makes Clinton look like a saint when it comes to corruption in goverment.
Did you go to the prayer rally in Ben Yehuda square a couple of months ago to pray for the land of Israel? The presense of God was so thick it was hard to stand. Me thinks that Israel will be flying a new flag soon.
It is getting close to this. Sharon looses a bit of support every vote. Critical mass is the vote on the budget. If it is not passed soon, general elections will be automaticly triggered.
2) Does Benyamin Netanyahu have a chance of winning such elections...
Yes, and it may not be necessary, there is already talk of the President calling for a reform of the Likud party under BB or another man. If they can reform the coalition under BB strong enough to hold the govt together, general elections may be avoided. Sharon will by out on his keester, which is fitting. Sharon must fight this, some are saying because he needs an umbrella to protect him from some criminal charges. Sharon is getting more and more like Clinton in his last hours, minus the whoremongering.
You call it surrender. I don't. I think the IDF will be in a much stronger position if we don't have to have as many soldiers defending Netzarim as there are settlers there. I think not placing soldiers in the midst of and surrounded by the enemy isn't surrender. It's common sense.
Amos 9:11 In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be,
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name, declares the LORD, who will do these things.
13 The days are coming, declares the LORD, when the reaper will be overtaken by the ploughman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills.
14 I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,
says the LORD your God.
I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them.
Thanks for your stalwart work on behalf of the truth. HaShem Rules.
I call it surrender as Israel does not have the land distance to loose. Gaza has been a traditional staging area for invasion it proves two things. One, it will be used again as it is being used right now and two, some people never learn.
Now Many more towns will be in range. And instead of fighting from a defensive position, you will have the joy of having to fight against a defensive position. The loses will naturaly be much higher. It is much easier to keep land than take it, again and again and again.
The odds are always easier on the defenders. The pullout will only insure that more people will die and that you have even less time to respond to a serious invasion. When the war you are fighting to avoid comes, as it has many times in the past, perhaps you will win it this time before they reach the shore and we all drown. But 50 miles is a pretty thin defensive buffer.
Dosn't look good, but HaShem is on our side. I guess we can with the war with both hands tied behind our backs, blinded and feet set in concrete.
At least Sharon thinks so.
