True Christians were not part of the crusades.

Can you clarify that statement?

That's why there were holy orders founded to go on the crusades ?

What is it with pacifistic Christians?? Did not Jesus tell his disciples to sell his cloak and buy a sword ?

The Crusades were totally legitimate. The Crusades were expeditions undertaken to deliver the Holy Places from Mohammedan tyranny.

"True Christians were not part of the crusades..."

that's completely false. The several hundred thousand crusaders over the few centuries were certainly following the orders of the one true Church of the time, and most probably believed in the cause.

You can't just look at past Christian atrocities and claim that the people weren't Christian due to their actions. If that's the case, then I dare say there isn't a single 'true Christian' on earth and never will be, since everyone will fail and sin at some point. Just because this is inevitable doesn't make one a non-Christian.
