On page 56 of the report it is mentioned that Mapes emailed Rather and her superiors that when it came to his military career "George Bush was truly born on third base". That dig is plagarism from Ann Richards's 1988 convention speech in which she claimed about Bush 41 - "He was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple". (Which Richards plagarized from Jim Hightower.) Our friend Lorie Byrd notes that there was still no conclusion the documents were forgeries. Unreal.

I see with not just a little pride that the pajamahudeen has now set its sights on the Report itself! Will they never learn?

Is using a one-liner you heard somewhere else plagarism? Plagarism is more like what Molly Ivins did to Florence King.

I'm sorry, but aren't we getting just a wee bit fussy? She plagerized by using a a comment in an internal e-mail that someone else had used elsewhere? Let's get real!
To: crushkerry
Let them live in their own little media fantasy world, which is infallible, and in which reality molds to whatever they say it is. Thank God rather is gone.
These 'elites' were also born on third base. However, they're running the bases backwards.
You see, George Bush is much closer to home! ;)

Note: the Report states (on p. 4) that the "Panel has not been able to conclude with absolute certainty whether the Killian documents are authentic or forgeries." ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY. What sort of standard is that? Even the criminal law merely requires beyond a reasonable doubt. The Report goes to great lenghts to question the authenticity of the documents (see pp 133-150)and then applies an absolute standard to avoid reaching a conclusion that would be damaging to CBS News ans Dan rather. What courage.

Ugh, with all this plagarism I can't keep track. Inititally it was said ann said it in her speech. Then it was that Hightower had said it, then it was that Ann used Jim's line in her convention speech.
Oh what tangled webs we weave....

Of course she didn't "plagarize" in the "bad" sense fo the word. I use "plagarize" 1. because of the content of the original story, and 2. because I often use "plagarize" in a neutral sense, as in after I tell a joke I'll say "Yeah, I plagrized that from Jim". Certainly it's nothing like CBS did. Maybe it was a bad choice of words.

I'm not sure it qualifies as plagarism when the words in question are a tired cliché.

NO, it was plagerized from Jim Hightower's 1988 convention speech. As the article explains, MM palgerized it from AR who had plagerized it from JH.

As the article explains, MM palgerized it from AR who had plagerized it from JH. I didn't read the article. I saw the speech. That's why I remembered it was Hightower who said it.

Interesting. I've heard that quote before in the band Pearl Jams lyrics on thier latest album 'Riot Act'. Here's an excerpt from the song "Bushleaguer".
A confidence man, but why so beleaguered?
He's not a leader, he's a Texas leaguer
Swinging for the fence, got lucky with his strike
Drilling for fear, makes the job simple
Born on third, thinks he got a triple
To: crushkerry
I am not surprised that these slimy media people still will not admit the documents they tried to foist upon the American people WERE FORGERIES. Amazing!
